It's been a while since we called out the headline writers at NHL.com, and there are reasons for such a moratorium.  For one, it's damn hard to visit the league's site at work without 17 videos simultaneously starting/getting you fired.  Secondly, there's only so much Winter Classic update you can take - and this is coming from a fan of one of the two teams playing in damn thing.  But third, oh dear third, is the headlines.

For those who aren't keenly tuned in to the fierce rivalry between the St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames, another matchup occurred last night.  Forget the fact that the Blues decided last night was the night to retire Brett Hull's jersey - his awful mid-nineties red and orange and yellow and blue diagonal jersey - there was a hockey game, too!  And the game was decided when T.J. Oshie scored the go ahead with about 5 minutes left.  Final score: St. Louis 4, Calgary 3.

Now I wish I can say that Oshie's goal was one for the highlight reels, but it was more garden variety than anything.  Honestly, if Paul Kariya can slide a pass from the slot across the ice to give you a wide open net, you better damn execute.  And like I mentioned before, this goal did not happen in the final minute of a game, or in the extra frame, or on a penalty shot.  It was a standard go-ahead goal and the Blues won.  And yet.

OH MY G-OSHIE!

Let's ignore the fact that this is the most ridiculous thing I've ever read for a second, and focus on the emotion that our esteemed NHL.com headline writer tried to convey.  Despite a literary stretch that would tear Chris Chelios' groin in nine, "Oh My Gosh!" is a phrase that evokes surprise or disbelief.

Is anyone all that incredulous that T.J. Oshie, one of the better Blues, scored a goal at home on a nice pass in the middle of the third?  Right.

My theory is that at some point in the past two years, our beloved headliner came up with this gem and stored it away for the perfect moment when T.J. blows all of our minds with a shorthanded gamewinner to clinch a playoff spot, and yet, it's never happened.  So, after all this time, the headline writer gave up hope, sighed "fuck it", and started typing.

NHL.com makes me sad.
